FIRE ANT CONTROL & TREATMENT

Fire ants are the #1 yard pest in Central Texas — and the most dangerous. Our yard-wide ant treatment eliminates entire colonies, not just the mound you can see. Free inspections — call (512) 229-5001.

THE FIRE ANT PROBLEM IN CENTRAL TEXAS

Red imported fire ants (RIFA) have dominated Texas yards for decades. They're aggressive, they sting repeatedly, and a single colony can contain hundreds of thousands of workers. Here's why they're a serious threat to your property and everyone on it.

AGGRESSIVE STINGERS

Unlike most ants, fire ants sting — not bite. When a mound is disturbed, hundreds of workers swarm simultaneously and sting repeatedly. The venom causes an intense burning sensation, followed by raised white pustules that itch for days.

DANGEROUS TO VULNERABLE PEOPLE & PETS

Children, elderly adults, and pets are at the highest risk. Toddlers who fall into a mound or step on one in bare feet can receive hundreds of stings in seconds. For those with venom allergies, fire ant stings can trigger anaphylaxis — a life-threatening emergency.

DAMAGE TO ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

Fire ants are attracted to electrical fields. They nest inside junction boxes, AC units, irrigation controllers, and utility pedestals. Their presence can cause short circuits, equipment failure, and fires. This damage often isn't covered by standard warranties.

MOUND IDENTIFICATION

Fire ant mounds are dome-shaped, loose soil mounds with no visible opening on top — ants enter and exit through underground tunnels. Mounds appear especially after rain. A mature colony can produce dozens of satellite mounds across a single yard.

FIRE ANT FACTS

Hundreds of thousands

Workers in a mature fire ant colony. The queen can lay up to 1,500 eggs per day, making colonies difficult to eliminate without treating the entire yard.

Up to 5 feet deep

Fire ant colonies extend underground, far below the visible mound. Surface treatments that don't reach the queen have no lasting effect.

Multiple queens

Modern fire ant colonies in Texas frequently have multiple queens (polygyne form), making them harder to eliminate and more likely to spread.

30+ mounds per acre

Heavily infested Texas properties can have more than 30 active mounds per acre. Treating them one at a time is a losing strategy.

FIRE ANT TREATMENT OPTIONS

Not every property calls for the same approach. We use the right combination of methods based on infestation level, yard size, and how quickly you need results.

Most Effective

BROADCAST BAIT TREATMENT

Granular bait is spread across the entire yard, not just visible mounds. Worker ants carry the bait back to the colony and share it with the queen. This is the only method that eliminates colonies you can't see — the hidden ones underneath your lawn.

Fast Knockdown

INDIVIDUAL MOUND TREATMENT

Targeted treatment applied directly to active mounds for rapid elimination. Liquid drench or contact insecticide penetrates the mound and kills workers and brood on contact. Best used alongside broadcast bait for comprehensive coverage.

Deep Penetration

LIQUID DRENCH

A high-volume liquid insecticide solution poured directly into the mound. The drench saturates the colony tunnels, reaching deep enough to kill queens and brood. Highly effective on large, well-established mounds.

Industry Standard

TWO-STEP METHOD

The Texas A&M recommended approach: broadcast bait across the entire yard first, then follow up with individual mound treatments 5–7 days later. The bait weakens the colony before the drench finishes the job. Dramatically more effective than either method alone.

Long-Term Control

RECURRING SEASONAL PROGRAMS

Fire ants are active year-round in Central Texas and re-infest from neighboring properties. Quarterly or biannual programs maintain suppression so mounds don't rebuild between visits. The most cost-effective way to keep fire ants out for good.

WHY DIY FIRE ANT TREATMENT FAILS

Hardware store products and home remedies are consistently ineffective against fire ants. Here's why they don't work — and sometimes make the problem worse.

Treating One Mound Splits the Colony

When a mound is disturbed or treated with a surface product, fire ant colonies sense the threat and split. The queen — or multiple queens — relocates to a new area of the yard and starts new mounds. You end up with more mounds than you started with.

Store Products Don't Reach the Queen

Over-the-counter granules and sprays are formulated to kill surface workers on contact. They rarely penetrate deep enough to reach the queen's chamber. Without killing the queen, the colony simply recovers and rebuilds within days.

Boiling Water & Home Remedies Don't Work

Pouring boiling water into a mound kills some workers near the top but almost never reaches the queen. It also damages turf and soil. Grits, club soda, gasoline, and other folk remedies have no scientific evidence of effectiveness.

Spot Treating Misses Hidden Colonies

For every visible mound, there are likely several hidden colonies without above-ground mounds yet. Spot treatments only address what you can see, leaving a large portion of the infestation untouched and ready to resurface.

OUR APPROACH TO FIRE ANT CONTROL

We treat the entire yard — not just the mounds you point out. Our approach is designed to collapse entire colonies, including the hidden ones your eyes can't find.

YARD-WIDE TREATMENT

We broadcast granular bait across your entire lawn so worker ants — from every colony, visible or not — carry the product back to their queens. This is the only way to address the full scope of an infestation rather than chasing individual mounds.

TARGETS ENTIRE COLONIES

Our products are selected specifically to reach the colony's reproductive core. We use slow-acting baits that workers share through the colony before it takes effect, ensuring the queen and brood are eliminated — not just the surface workers.

VISIBLE MOUND FOLLOW-UP

We follow the broadcast bait with direct mound treatment on every active mound we identify during the visit. The combination is significantly more effective than either method alone and provides faster knockdown of heavily active areas.

FOLLOW-UP INCLUDED

We don't disappear after the first treatment. If mound activity persists or new mounds appear between scheduled visits, we'll come back. Recurring seasonal programs include scheduled follow-up visits to maintain suppression year-round.

SAFE AROUND KIDS & PETS

We use professional-grade products with established safety records for residential use. We'll walk you through dry times and any re-entry precautions specific to your treatment during the inspection so your family and pets are protected throughout the process.
