WHY MOSQUITOES LOVE YOUR YARD

Central Texas gives mosquitoes everything they need — heat, humidity, and plenty of breeding opportunities. Understanding what attracts them to your property is the first step toward eliminating them.

STANDING WATER

Mosquitoes breed in as little as a bottle cap of standing water. Birdbaths, clogged gutters, low spots in the yard, plant saucers, tarps, and even empty containers collect enough water for hundreds of eggs.

SHADE & DENSE VEGETATION

Adult mosquitoes rest in shaded vegetation during the heat of the day. Overgrown shrubs, thick ground cover, and shaded tree canopies create the cool, humid microhabitats they need to survive.

TALL GRASS & UNMOWED EDGES

Unmowed grass along fences, tree lines, and property edges gives mosquitoes protected resting spots close to their preferred feeding areas. Central Texas summers make regular mowing easy to fall behind on.

DEBRIS & ORGANIC MATTER

Leaf piles, wood stacks, and organic debris retain moisture and create sheltered areas where mosquitoes can breed and rest. Seasonal rainfall and high humidity keep these spots active most of the year.

CENTRAL TEXAS CLIMATE

With a mosquito season that runs March through November and peak activity from May through September, Central Texas properties face sustained pressure. Warm winters mean populations rebound quickly in spring.

DRAINAGE ISSUES

Flat yards, compacted soil, and poor drainage create persistent wet spots after rain. Even temporary pooling can produce a full generation of mosquitoes in under two weeks.

PROFESSIONAL MOSQUITO YARD TREATMENT OPTIONS

Effective mosquito yard treatment targets every stage of the lifecycle — eggs, larvae, and adults. We match the right treatment to your property based on yard size, vegetation, water features, and pressure level.

Most Popular

BARRIER SPRAY

A residual insecticide is applied to vegetation, shrubs, fencing, and structures around your property. Mosquitoes resting on treated surfaces are killed on contact. The product bonds to plant surfaces and keeps working for approximately 21 days, providing consistent knockdown between service visits.

  • Kills mosquitoes on contact
  • Residual protection for ~21 days
  • Applied to vegetation, fence lines, and structures
  • Safe for re-entry once dry (typically 30–60 minutes)
Maximum Coverage

MISTING SYSTEMS

Automated misting systems deliver timed treatments throughout your property on a programmed schedule — typically at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active. Ideal for larger properties, outdoor entertaining areas, patios, and pool surrounds that need consistent protection without manual applications.

  • Automated — no scheduling required
  • Timed for peak mosquito activity periods
  • Ideal for patios, pools, and large yards
  • Adjustable frequency based on season and pressure

LARVICIDE TREATMENTS

For standing water that can't be eliminated — ornamental ponds, drainage ditches, water features, and retention areas — larvicide treatments stop mosquitoes before they become biting adults. Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (Bti) formulations are highly effective and safe for fish, wildlife, and beneficial insects.

  • Targets larvae before they emerge as adults
  • Safe for ponds, water features, and drainage areas
  • Bti-based options are wildlife and pet friendly
  • Used alongside barrier spray for full lifecycle control
Supplemental

GRANULAR TREATMENTS

Granular insecticide treatments are applied to turf, mulch beds, and ground cover in areas where liquid spray may not penetrate effectively. They release slowly with moisture, providing residual activity in thick vegetation, dense ground cover, and shaded areas that stay damp longer.

  • Effective in dense ground cover and mulch beds
  • Slow-release formula extends residual activity
  • Complements barrier spray in heavily vegetated yards
  • Applied to areas where liquid runoff is a concern

HOW OFTEN TO TREAT YOUR YARD FOR MOSQUITOES

Treatment frequency depends on the season, recent rainfall, and the level of activity on your property. Here's how we typically schedule mosquito yard treatments in Central Texas.

MARCH–APRIL

Monthly

Season opener. Establish barrier before populations build.

MAY–SEPTEMBER

Monthly / Bi-Weekly

Peak season. Heavy pressure properties benefit from bi-weekly visits.

OCTOBER–NOVEMBER

Monthly

Activity tapers. Continue treatment until consistent cool nights arrive.

HEAVY PRESSURE PROPERTIES

Properties near creeks, ponds, drainage easements, or with extensive tree canopy tend to see faster mosquito activity rebound — especially after rainfall. For these yards, bi-weekly treatments during May through September provide significantly better control. We assess your property during the initial inspection and recommend the right frequency for your specific conditions.

DIY VS. PROFESSIONAL MOSQUITO YARD SPRAY

A fair comparison. Some DIY options provide limited relief — but there's a real gap between what you can do yourself and what a professional mosquito yard treatment delivers.

DIY OPTIONS

Citronella Candles & Torches

Provide a small zone of deterrence — roughly 3 feet in still air. Wind, mosquito pressure, and yard size make them ineffective as a primary control method. Fine for casual outdoor use, not adequate for serious infestations.

Bug Zappers

Attract and kill insects using UV light, but mosquitoes aren't strongly attracted to UV. Research consistently shows zappers kill far more beneficial insects than mosquitoes. Not a recommended mosquito solution.

CO2 Traps

More effective than zappers — mosquitoes are attracted to CO2. Can reduce local populations over time but require consistent operation, propane or CO2 refills, and placement optimization to see meaningful results.

Store-Bought Yard Sprays

Consumer-grade pyrethrins and permethrin sprays can provide short-term knockdown, but concentration, coverage, and application technique matter. Without proper equipment, coverage is often uneven and residual activity is short.

PROFESSIONAL TREATMENT

Professional-Grade Products

We use professional-grade residual barrier products that aren't available over the counter. Higher active ingredient concentrations, better surfactants, and proper formulations deliver significantly longer residual activity.

Full-Coverage Application

We use commercial spray equipment that delivers consistent, even coverage across all vegetation, fence lines, and structures. No missed spots, no uneven application — the entire yard gets treated.

Targeting All Life Stages

Professional treatment combines barrier spray, larvicide where needed, and granular treatments for dense areas. A single product never targets all life stages the way a combined program does.

Ongoing Accountability

With a recurring program, we monitor results and adjust treatment intensity based on conditions and activity levels. If mosquito pressure rebounds early, we come back — that's not something a bag of granules can offer.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM OUR MOSQUITO YARD TREATMENT

From the first call to ongoing protection, here's exactly how our mosquito yard treatment service works.

Step 1

YARD INSPECTION

We walk your property to identify breeding sites, high-activity resting areas, drainage issues, and vegetation that needs attention. We'll point out conditions you can address between visits to reduce pressure.

Step 2

TREATMENT

Barrier spray applied to all vegetation, fence lines, structures, and shaded resting areas. Larvicide deployed to any standing water that can't be eliminated. Granular applied to dense ground cover and mulch beds as needed.

Step 3

FOLLOW-UP

We document the treatment and follow up after service. If you're seeing elevated activity before your next scheduled visit — particularly after heavy rain — contact us and we'll assess whether an early return is warranted.

Step 4

RECURRING PLANS

Seasonal programs run March through November on a monthly or bi-weekly schedule depending on your property and pressure level. Plans are flexible — start, pause, or adjust frequency as your needs change.

RE-ENTRY & SAFETY

Treated areas are safe for people and pets once dry — typically 30 to 60 minutes depending on conditions. We'll give you specific re-entry guidance during the inspection based on your landscaping and any pets or children in the household.
